The BA first year student was felicitated with a Commendation Roll by Bassi along with a cash reward of Rs 10,000 at the Delhi Police Headquarters here this afternoon. Speaking to reporters after awarding the girl, Bassi said that she has set an example for other girls.
"I always say that girls should be trained in self defence so that they can defend themselves in case of any aggression. I hope the brave act of this girl will inspire other girls," said Bassi.
The incident took place on Friday evening around 6:30 PM when the girl was returning home after attending her Wushu classes when one person, who was later identified as Rajesh Gupta (28) passed objectionable comments on her and tried to outrage her modesty.
"This act was strongly opposed by the girl. She hit him back and using her training in martial arts, overpowered him. She then called her trainer Amit Goswami and with his help, she handed him over to police," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Madhur Verma.
