"On routine inspection of 8,742 Durga Puja pandals throughout the state on Friday (October 11) and Saturday (October 12) by officials from regional and divisional offices of West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (WBSEDCL), it was found that 2,721 Puja committees consumed power illegally and a bill of Rs 17.42 lakh has been claimed for overdrawal of 8,980 KW power," a press statement said.
On October 13 the demand in WBSEDCL area was 4,500 MW including additional puja load. Last year the demand in WBSEDCL area was 4,100 MW, the statement added.
