Officials said the incident happened at around 12 noon when a Border Security Force patrol intercepted two people along Jayantipur border outpost in North 24 Parganas district when they were allegedly trying to smuggle out a bag containing gold biscuits into the neighbouring country.
The biscuits, 22 in number, weigh 25.5kg and have an estimated market value of Rs 65 lakh. The apprehended duo were later handed over to Customs authorities, they said.
The arrests have been made from Tarali and Haridaspur border areas of the district, they said, adding all the apprehended people have been handed over to local police by the paramilitary force.
