Two siblings drowned today in Jhelum river in Sopore town of north Kashmir's Baramulla district, police said.
Six-year-old Falak Jan accidentally fell into the river this afternoon while playing near Jamia Masjid Qadeem in the town, 50 kilometers from here, a police official said.
Seeing her sister slip into the river, her elder brother Rashid Ahmad Sheikh (10) jumped to rescue her but both drowned, the official said.
He said police, along with local residents, immediately launched an operation to trace the sister-brother duo but their efforts have remained unsuccessful so far, the official added.
