The incident took place midnight last night on Katihar-Barsoi section. After noticing the fire, the drivers stopped the train and separated the engine from the wagons, Divisional Railway Manager Arun Kumar Sharma said.
While dousing the fire, four railwaymen received burn injuries, he said, adding three of them have been admitted to Katihar railway hospital while a senior sectional engineer, Vimal Chaudhary, has been admitted to a hospital in Patna in serious condition.
The goods train was on way to Katihar from Guwahati.
