In terms of geographical distribution 98 per cent of the state's territory has been covered under rural road network, which now comes to 36,232 km and constructed by the NDA government in the past seven years to improve rural connectivity, Singh said replying to the debate on his department's budget of Rs 2,472.83 crore.
The NDA government took rural road connectivity as a major challenge in view of the poor condition of roads during the erstwhile RJD government, he said.
The Centre has not included Bihar among states for sanctioning of funds and new rural road projects under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, he said.
Stressing on maintenance of rural roads, Singh said a three-tier monitoring system has been put in place to monitor condition of roads in rural areas.
The House later passed the department's budget by voice vote after opposition member Jyoti Rashmi refused to withdraw a cut motion.
