A 50-year-old widow was allegedly shot dead by her own son-in-law who was accused of raping the victim's minor daughter.
The incident took place in Outer Delhi's Narela last night
"The main accused, identified as Dinesh Mathur, who is the husband of the victim's elder daughter had allegedly raped her younger daughter on October 2. A case was filed in this regard and Mathur wanted that the case be withdrawn," said a senior police official.
Ironically, the 15-year-old girl, who was the victim in the rape case, is now a witness of her mother's murder. According to police, the incident took place last night around 9:30 PM at the victim's house where she lived with her minor daughter.
"Mathur along with two of his associates barged into the house beat up the mother-daughter duo and then shot the woman dead," the official added.
A call to the police control room was made by a neighbour and police reached the spot immediately. The woman was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was declared brought dead.
The girl in her statement told police said that she was raped by Mathur on October 2 following which she had registered an FIR against him. He had been forcing her mother to withdraw the case against him. The accused killed her mother after she refused to withdraw the case.
Police have registered a case under relevant sections of IPC including murder and launched a manhunt to nab the accused.
