As many as 550 CCTV cameras will be installed for security purpose in Trimbakeshwar and Nashik city for the forthcoming Kumbh mela, where over eight crore devotees are likely to arrive, a Maharashtra Home department official said.
About 200 CCTVs will be installed in Trimbakeshwar and 350 cameras in the Nashik city, state Additional Chief Secretary (Home) K P Bakshi said.
"The contract for the installation of cameras in Trimbakeshwar has been given to Veritas Software company," Bakshi told PTI.
The Kumbh mela is slated to start from July 14 in Nashik. The Home department expects the CCTV installation project to be completed by June 30, he said.
"Since this is a temporary set up of CCTVs, the cost would be much less as compared to permanent installation. In Nashik, the project will cost us around Rs 11 crore while in Trimbakeshwar it would be about Rs 4.1 crore. The work order has been given 15 days back," Bakshi said.
In Nashik, the command centre will be in the Police Commissioner's office and viewing centres will be in police stations, as well as at nine outer parking areas.
In Trimbakeshwar, the command centre will be in the police station while there will be four viewing centres in the outer parking areas, he said.
The last Kumbh mela in Nashik 12 years back witnessed nearly three crore pilgrims and the number is likely to rise to eight crore this year, Maharashtra's Tribal Welfare Minister Vishnu Sawra had recently said.
