8 killed in road accident in Egypt

At least eight people were killed today when a microbus fell from a bridge after colliding with a taxi in Egypt's east Alexandria governorate.
The accident happened at the el-Awayed bridge in east Alexandria killing 8 people, police said.
Egypt has one of the world's highest traffic accident rates due to careless driving and poor road and vehicle conditions.
On September 24, three persons, including a child, were killed and 15 others injured when a lorry collided with several vehicles in Giza in northeast Egypt.
On August 30, 11 people were burnt to death and six others injured when a microbus and a trailer collided in Cairo.

A week before that, 38 people were killed and 41 others injured when two tourist buses carrying around 80 passengers, including foreigners, collided near Sharm El-Sheikh resort in South Sinai.
A recent report by Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics said there were 15,578 car accidents in Egypt in 2013, up by 0.4 per cent from the year before, in which 6,716 people died and 22,411 others were injured.
