A case has been registered against eight persons for allegedly cheating people by taking money from them on the promise of giving government jobs, police said today.
The Jammu Crime Branch has booked Abdul Rashid Pandit, Mudasir Nabi Teli, Mehraj Din, Zahoor Ahmed Bhat, Farooq Ahmed Dar, Fayaz Ahmed Bhat, Irshad Ahmed Dar and Manzoor Ahmed Ganie of Baramulla district for cheating a youth and other persons of Rs 1 crore on the pretext of providing them jobs, a Crime Branch spokesman said.
The complaint was endorsed by Chief Judicial Magistrate, Jammu, to the Crime Branch with the direction to investigate the case.
Complainant Mohammad Ayoob Milu of Poonch district has alleged that the accused met him and two others--Ghulam Hussain and Mushtaq Ahmed-- at Jammu on November 24, 2012 and introduced themselves as influential persons.
They said some candidates were required for Class-IV posts in Kashmir and they could ensure that the jobs were to them if mony was paid.
To gain the confidence of the victims, the accused showed them appointment orders of various candidates, the spokesman said.
On this, the complainant, who wanted jobs for his relatives, paid Rs 5 lakh to the accused. Similarly, Rs 2 lakh and Rs 2.50 lakh were paid by Ghulam Hussain and Mushtaq Ahmed, respectively.
However, the victims later learnt that the accused were cheats and that all appointment orders shown by them were fake, the spokesman said.
