After a few candidates of SAD attributing property tax as one of the reasons to their defeat in Lok Sabha polls, Punjab government today announced to extend last date of property tax payment without penalty till June 30.
"Local Bodies Department has extended the last date to file the property tax after availing the benefit of rebate and outstanding house tax sans interest till June 30, 2014," said an official spokesman.
He said the government earlier fixed March 31 as last date for paying property tax which could not have been extended further due to the enforcement of Model Code of Conduct in the wake of parliamentary elections.
In the wake of hardships faced by the citizen of the state, the Punjab government has also decided to further streamline the procedure for property tax filing, he further said.
He said an appeal have also been issued by the Department in public interest to generate awareness amongst the citizen to enable them to file the property and house tax within the extended time limit.
He said instructions to all the Municipal Corporations, Municipal Councils and Panchayats have also been issued to execute awareness campaign to disseminate the information of property tax filing methodology and to extend help in this regard on the spot.
In Punjab, of the 13 Lok Sabha seats, SAD managed to win only four seats, including Bathinda, Ferozepur, Khadoor Sahib and Ananadpur Sahib.
