According to a "Preliminary Report on Assessment of Cleanliness Standards at Major Railway Stations", Madurai Junction is among the top 10 cleanest stations under A-1 Category in the country.
Eight stations -- Kovilpatti, Virudhungar, Erode, Salem, Mettupalayam,Kumbakonam, Tiruchchirappalli and Thanjavur -- are among the top twenty cleanest stations in the country in the same category.
The survey would give the real picture of the Railway stations across the country and help the railways to decide on further steps to be taken to improve cleanliness drive, a release said.
The task of survey was entrusted to Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), which engaged M/s TNS India Pvt. Ltd. For undertaking it. Seventyfive A1 category and 332 A category stations (407 stations in all) were taken up for survey on cleanliness of stations based on passenger feedback, the release said.
