The bus was heading for Pune from Trimbakeshwar in Nashik district amid heavy rains, Narayangaon police said.
The accident took place 77 km away from here.
The driver of the tempo, which was carrying onions, had halted on the road at around 1.45 am to change a flat tyre.
"The bus was heading for Pune from Trimbakeshwar in Nashik district and it seems that its driver could not see the stationary tempo due to heavy rains. The bus rammed the tempo from behind," said a police officer of Narayangaon police station.
"Identity of one deceased is yet to be ascertained," said the officer.
Jondhale and Pathan were replacing the tyre of the tempo, whereas the remaining seven were passengers of the bus.
"The injured passengers are being treated at nearby hospitals," added the officer.
