"We have rescued State Bank official Arvind Kumar from Millem village in Raksakona area about 25 km away from district headquarters Tura in the wee hours. He is unharmed and was admitted in a hospital at Tura," Inspector General of Police G H P Raju said.
Acting on a tip off that Kumar was kept in a house in the village, police raided the area and as they approached armed men fired at the police team. When retaliated, they fled, Raju said.
Kumar, a branch manager at Ampati in South West Garo hills district, was abducted at gun-point on Monday from Garobada area of West Garo Hills district while he was on his way to his office.
Police suspected the involvement of the outlawed Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) and its break-away faction the A'chik Songna An'pachakgipa Kotok (ASAK) group in the abduction, he said.
