"CBI has registered 1,997 cases under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 during the last three years i.E. 2010, 2011 and 2012 and during the current year up to January 31, 2013," Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions V Narayanasamy told Lok Sabha in a written reply.
Of the total of 1,997 corruption cases registered by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), as many as 650 were filed in 2010, 600 in 2011 and 695 during last year, he said.
The investigating agency has filed closure report in 129 cases. It included 44 in 2010, 38 in 2011, 45 in 2012 and two in January this year.
In reply to another question, Narayanasamy said that CBI has filed charge sheet in 2,229 cases in various courts across the country in the last three years. Of these, 842 charge sheets were filed in 2010, 701 in 2011 and 686 in 2012, he said.
