Deputy Commissioner of Kathua district Rohit Khajuria Monday urged representatives of political parties to adhere to the model code of conduct (MCC) guidelines, while listening to their concerns related to the upcoming urban local body polls here.
During a meeting with the party representatives, the DC announced that the Model Code of Conduct was in force, and asked the candidates and political parties to follow its guidelines, an official spokesman said.
"No violation of MCC will be allowed at any stage of election process," he affirmed, and further stated that no party or candidate should indulge in any activity in violation of the model code of conduct.
The DC added that parties should refrain from invoking caste and community while asking for votes.
The DC asked the representatives to make people aware about the election procedure and the EVM machines which are going to be used for the first time in the urban local body polls.
He said awareness was must for mobilising people in huge numbers to cast votes.
He also stressed on managing the expenditure within the prescribed limits during election campaign and following the guidelines of Election Commission.
The DC assured them that foolproof security arrangements for the candidates and voters will be put in place to ensure smooth elections while exercise is on to identify sensitive and hyper sensitive polling stations.
