A tribal organisation today said that it will not take part in the Republic Day function across the country to protest the 'lackadaisical' approach of the government to implement constitutional provisions meant to protect their community's interest.
"We will not participate in the Republic day celebrations wherever violation of constitutional provisions are taking place across in the country," said Akhil Bharatiya Adivasi Mahasabha (ABAM) Central Committee president Fagu Soren.
The constitutional provisions were not being implemented in nine states, including Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Jharkhand, which come under the 5th Schedule, he claimed.
Soren claimed Constitutional provisions enacted in the interest of tribals was being continuously violated by the government officials despite Prime Minister Narendra Modi's assurance to uplift the community.
The government was implementing the common land acquisition act in the schedule area, which was in violation of the constitutional norms, he said while announcing to oppose the ordinance recently passed to amend the Land Acquisition Act.
Meanwhile, addressing a press conference here today, ABAM East Singhbhum committee president Krishan Hansda said the organisation would not participate in any function organised to mark the Republic day on Monday.
The East Singhbhum district comes under 5th Schedule as per Section 244 (1) of the Constitution but the century-old Chotanagpur Tenancy Act and Santal Paragana Tenancy Act, formed in 1949, were being violated repeatedly by government officials, Hansda said.
