Police said all the deceased, including the AIADMK functionary, were from Melur near Madurai. Two of the seven persons who suffered serious injuries had been hospitalised, they said.
The occupants of the car were returning from Coutralam when they met with the accident around 23.00 hrs.
Five persons in the bus, including the driver were also injured and have been hospitalised.
