Despite opposition from various quarters, AIIMS Director RC Deka will put forth at a financial committee meeting tomorrow the proposal for introduction of two fellowships in the foetal department headed by his wife.
According to AIIMS sources, the said proposal was neither approved by the Staff Council nor okayed in the Dean's Committee and Academic Committee meetings and faced strong resistance from a large section of faculty members.
Some senior doctors had even written to the Chairman of the Academic Committee alleging that although the minutes of the Dean's Committee meeting were not circulated among them, the matter was still placed before it as an item on the agenda.
"In the normal course, issues discussed in the Dean Committee are taken up in the staff council meeting before the matter is brought to the Academic Committee.
"In this case, the staff council was bypassed without any apparent reason. It is reasonable to think that the issue is being fast-tracked by the administration at the behest of the Director to facilitate the cause of his spouse," sources added.
The foetal department is headed by Dipika Deka and it falls under the department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
