The 49-year-old actor took to Twitter to share a picture with the PM.
"Met PM @narendramodi and got the opportunity to tell him about my upcoming 'Toilet-Ek Prem Katha'," wrote Akshay.
The National Award-winning actor added that he was overjoyed when the title of the film brought a smile on PM Modi's face.
"His smile at just the title made my day!" he continued.
The film directed by Shree Narayan Singh is based on a love story against the backdrop of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
The movie will hit the theatres on June 2.
