Sapam Robinhood, a student of class XI who was killed allegedly in police action on July 8 last during Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) agitation, was cremated today at Awaching in Manipur's Imphal East district.
The body of Robinhood, of Ananda Singh Higher Secondary School, was claimed by his family today, a good 58 days after his death in the wake of an agreement between state government and representatives of JCILPS and the recently formed 'Joint Action Committee on Brutal killing of Sapam Robinhood' on September 1 last, a senior police officer said today.
Following the agreement, state government already released all 52 arrested persons from detention without any condition, the officer said.
The two sides further agreed that a complex be reserved by the state where the funeral rites of Sapam will be performed and the government would provide financial and logistic support in the development works of the site including a memorial for the bereaved, the official said.
It was also agreed that all the arrested persons in connection with JCILPS movement be released unconditionally by the state government, a JCLIPS spokesman said.
The state government and JCILPS also concurred that all persons who suffered injuries during the JCILPS movement be provided financial help by the state, he said.
Sapam was reportedly hit by a rubber bullet in the face on July eight during a clash between JCLIPS activists and Police. He was rushed to a private hospital in a critical condition and died shortly after admission.
