According to police, an unknown person called up on the official mobile phone of the district police chief last night.
The call was received by a constable on duty, they said.
The unknown person threatened that there could be a bomb blast if a prisoner lodged in Ambala jail was not released immediately, police said.
The person also demanded Rs 50 lakh from him, police added.
The constable brought the matter in the notice of SP.
The matter is being probed and information is being collected about the prisoner who was asked to be released by the unknown person.

Some unknown person rang the official mobile phone of SP on August 21 night which was picked up by the constable on duty, police said.

Meanwhile, security has been beefed up out side the central jail Ambala, police said.
