The police was informed about the matter today following which the administration deployed security personnel in large numbers to thwart any untoward incident, SP Sulochana Gajraj said.
Locals claimed that a statue of the social reformer was installed in the village on April 8 and it was removed by some people last night, police said.
"It is suspected that some unidentified miscreants removed the statue," SDM S K Chahal said.
"The gram panchayat has said that the statue was installed without its permission and claimed that they were not informed about the installation," he said.
The police have launched a manhunt for the miscreants, the SP said.
