"Our Chief Minister (N Chandrababu Naidu) has given a target to me that by June-end, we have to install LED streetlights in 110 municipalities and corporations across the state," Municipal Administration Minister P Narayana said today.
He was addressing a national conference on LED manufacturing industry.
"We got replacement of existing inefficient sodium or mercury vapour lamps numbering over 90,000 with LED streetlights in Visakhapatnam after cyclone Hudhud in 21 days. After that, all municipalities are asking for LED streetlights," he said.
"(Supply of) 4.5 lakh (LED streetlights) capacity is not a constrain in three months. But, a study should be first carried out in municipalities and corporations over cabling infrastructure, pole earthing among other issues to ensure safety is not compromised and the LED bulbs last long," they said.
