Top Telugu movie star Nandamuri Balakrishna, who is also son of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) founder-president N T Rama Rao, mad an impressive political debut by winning the assembly election from Hindupur segment in Anantapuram district by a margin of more than 16,900 votes.
Balakrishna, brother-in-law of TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu, entered the electoral fray for the first time though he had been a star campaigner for the party since its inception.
Hindupur assembly segment was previously represented by N T Rama Rao himself and also Balakrishna's elder brother Harikrishna.
Roja, who is married to Tamil movie director R K Selvamani, won the Nagari assembly seat as the YSR Congress candidate this time, beating veteran TDP legislator Gali Muddukrishnama Naidu.
Incidentally, Balakrishna and Roja were paired in a couple of hit Telugu movies in the 1990s.
While Balakrishna continues to play lead roles in blockbuster movies, Roja plays character roles in movies, besides anchoring television shows.
Movie actor and producer N Siva Prasad got re-elected from the Chittoor Lok Sabha constituency, from where he was elected in 2009 as well.
