Abol Tabol revisited in Raima-starrer

Reinventing limerick king Sukumar Ray's 'Abol Tabol' for the present day Bengali audience, in a story format, ace adman-turned-film maker Rangan Chakraborty churns out 'Baari Tar Bangla' drawn from the nonsense creator's rhyme with Raima Sen and Saswata Chatterjee in pivotal roles.
"I play the first ever character possibly in an Indian film which is ageless. I play a child and an adult at the same time as Rupchand," Saswata said.
"I essay a psychitatirst but don't ask me how much I liked the film because I acted and dubbed my shots but did not see the film as a whole. But the film has a typical Bengaliness which has become a hallmark of our cinema and I am proud to be part of that," Raima, who shared screen space with Saswata in C/O Sir and upcoming 89, said.

Every Bengalee knows Sukumar Roy had penned humorous lyrics and every household boasts of an Abol Tabol, and Hazabarala, Raima said.
Bhhoter Bhabisyot director Anik Dutta, whose script and dialogues reflected the deft intellectualism of Bengalees, said, "Rangan has in a way contemporised the early 20th humour tradition of Sukumar. It shows Hazabarala, Abol Tabol and other priceless literature will never be taken of our psyche."
Anik, whose last film was Aschorjo Prodip, said he nourished dream to put to celluloid Hazabarala one day.
