Police personnel of English Bazar police station recovered the arms after frisking Alarul Haque, whose movements in front of the university aroused suspicion.
Ten pistols, 50 live cartridges and 10 magazines were seized from his possession, the police said.
Police suspect that Haque, a resident of Shamserganj in Murshidabad district, was supposed to deliver the arms to someone.
