Congress leader Saif-ud-in Soz today challenged Prime Minister Modi led-BJP government to abrogate Article 370 granting special status to the state of Jammu and Kashmir, stating that the provision was a "bridge" between the state and the centre.
"I challenge Modi, BJP and the RSS to abrogate Article 370. No one can change it. It is the bridge between the centre and the state and an essential element of the fundamental constitution of India. Breaking this bridge will break the relations between the state and the centre," Soz said.
Asked about the amendments to the article which have led to its dilution over the years, Soz said "There has been dilution and I do not oppose your views that it should not have happened".
"This (issue of dilution of the article) is also a part of the dialogue process which the Congress party wants to take up as Article 370 safeguards the Kashmiriyat," he said.
Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee President claimed that BJP would never be able to fulfill its poll promises of building Ram Temple, implementation of Uniform Civil Code in the country and abrogation of the Article 370.
"I am telling you with full responsibility that BJP cannot do anything on these poll promises. They will never be able to abrogate Article 370 and they will never be able to implement the RSS agenda of Uniform Civil Code.
"And only Hindus and Muslims together can build the Ram Temple or the directions would come from the Supreme Court. No one else, including the BJP can (build it)," he said.
