Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu today appreciated the contribution of the state police force in maintaining peace.
"As peace is the yardstick to gauge the social maturity of any nation or state, a peaceful state is one of the most important criteria for uninterrupted development," Khandu said at the 44th Arunachal Pradesh Police Raising Day at Police Training Centre (PTC) Banderdewa.
He announced that strengthening of police department will be one of the top priorities of his government.
"With active cooperation of state police personnel, the state government can ensure that there is peace in the state and any fringe element attempting to disrupt it shall be dealt with iron hand," Khandu asserted.
Khandu's assurance to enhance grant-in-aid to Arunachal Pradesh Police welfare Society from Rs 50 to Rs 100 per personnel per year and one time grant-in-aid of Rs 70 lakh for opening of the Subsidiary Canteen at various locations marked the celebration.
Funds raised for APP Welfare society is utilized for welfare loan such as medical treatment, marriage, education, accident benefits and retirement benefits of police personnel.
On the occasion, Khandu remembered the brave, honest and upright state police personnel who sacrificed their lives in pursuit of maintaining peace and fighting crime.
While recalling Deputy SP Bomto Kamdak's supreme sacrifice, the Chief Minister informed that state government has framed a policy to recognise the sacrifices made by police personnel.
Under the policy, an ex gratia to the tune of Rs 50 lakh and a suitable government job shall be given to the next of kin of all police personnel, irrespective of ranks, who sacrifice their lives while fighting terrorists or criminals.
Khandu said the state government has decided to give Deputy SP rank job to Kamdak's wife as mark of respect to the brave soul.
