of Punjab Police has been booked on charges of fraud, police said today.
A case under Section 420 (cheating) of IPC was registered last night against ASI Gurjit Singh of Jattpura locality of Kapurthala, serving in Taran Taran area, police said.
The complainant was one Surjit Singh of Parmar Nagar, Phagwara who alleged that he was duped of Rs 15 lakh by the ASI, who had made a deal with him of selling 43 kanal of land near village Bhakhriana at the rate of Rs 17.50 lakh per acre on June 27, 2012.
The accused had taken Rs 15 lakh in advance, promising to get the registry done on October 31, 2013, but when the victim reached the local tehsil for getting the deed registered on the stipulated day, the ASI did not turn up, police said.
Surjit then lodged a complaint with Kapurthala SSP Dhanpreet Kaur who ordered registration of a case against the ASI.
Investigations revealed that the ASI had made a deal on the same piece of land with one Beant Singh of Inderpura locality of Patiala and had taken 'biana' (advance) from him too, police said, police said, adding the ASI remains to be arrested.
