The indices will now have market capitalisation buffer rule for their current constituents along with liquidity buffer rule, according to an announcement on the BSE website.
At present, there is no such criteria in these indices.
The changes will be effective with the September 2016 rebalance, Asia Index said.
As per the new methodology, current constituents of the S&P BSE MidCap Select Index with a market capitalisation of at least Rs 1,600 crore and annualised traded value of at least Rs 800 crore will remain eligible for index inclusion provided they meet the other eligibility criteria.
Current constituents of both the indices with a turnover ratio of 16 per cent will also remain eligible for inclusions.
Asia Index Pvt Ltd is a joint venture between BSE and S&P Dow Jones Indices.
