Assam govt makes seat belts mandatory in vehicles

The Assam government has made use of seat belts compulsory for motorists driving all types of vehicles to minimise accidental deaths.
The government has also directed to ensure fitment of seat belts in all types of passenger vehicles including buses by April 15, a release said today.
Further, no one can sell or handover any vehicle to any customer without pre-fitted seat belt device, it said.
Such vehicles would not be entitled for registration, transfer of ownership or fitness certificate, etc. If not fitted with seat belt device for each and every seat, the release added.
