Delhi govt plans to develop tourism eco-park in city

The government is planning to develop Chhawla-Kanganhari area here into a weekend gateaway for Delhiites with tourism facilities like eco-sports, adventure activities and camping.
Minister for Tourism, Jitender Singh Tomar today took stock of the available facilities at the Chhawla-Kanganheri complex, located on Najafgarj Drain, which is being developed by Delhi Tourism.
He also directed officials to have the area developed into a weekend gateway for public leisure at the earliest.
According a senior government official, the complex is spread over 2.77 acres and 11.44 acres respectively and has a lot of potential to become one of the recreational projects with its board walk, camping and other facilities.
"Delhiites yearning to indulge in water sports, camping, and soft adventure activities over a weekend need not go beyond the city limits now. They can have the same fun at the complex," Tomar said.
There is a scope to further add more activities which the government would look into at the earliest possible time.
"The site has a remarkable potential for a perfect weekend break, away from the chaos and noise of a metropolis. It is to be developed as eco-park destination comprising of adventure activities such as paintball and obstacle courses," a senior government official said.
According to the Tourism Department, the complex is in the shape of an island. It consists of elevated walkways two-storied hut to work as restaurant and a canal with bridges.
The department aims at developing the Kanganhari for tented camping facility and overnight stay.
"There is also a provision for a km-long cycling and jogging track, along the periphery of the complex and also dining cafe area," an official said.
