Assam Guv to request state govt to hold APSC appointments:KMSS

Peasant body Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) has claimed Assam Governor P B Acharya has assured their delegation that he will request the government to put on hold all appointments of state civil servants of the 2013 batch until the ongoing probe is over.
The KMSS delegation led by RTI activist Akhil Gogoi met the Governor at Raj Bhawan yesterday and submitted a memorandum regarding alleged irregularities in recently declared results of the Assam Public Service Commission.
"The Governor has assured us that he will write to the state government to complete the ongoing probe as soon as possible and till then, the recruitment process of the 2013 batch candidates should be put on hold," KMSS said in a release.

The KMSS further claimed that Acharya would write to the President if the state government does not take any step and would request to take action against the APSC chairman Rakesh Kumar Paul.
On June 18 last, the Assam government had said it had ordered a probe by Additional Chief Secretary Subhash Chandra Das into five cases of alleged irregularities in recently declared results of the state civil services examinations.
On June 16, peasant leader Akhil Gogoi and five others were arrested and sent to 14 days judicial custody for allegedly instigating his supporters to prevent APSC staff from entering the office.

Gogoi, released later on bail, was on a three-day sit-in strike since June 15 in front of the APSC head office demanding a probe into the alleged corruption in the recently declared results of state civil services exams and removal of the APSC chairman.
Following their arrest, KMSS members and supporters protested across the state. Some members tried to block trains by protesting on tracks at a few places in Upper Assam.
