Assam Police has started survey of 'char' areas (seasonal islands), besides increasing patrolling to prevent any untoward incident by anti-social elements.
"Survey in the 829 villages at char areas of the state have started after the direction of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and the river patrolling system has also been bolstered with modern technology," an official release said.
These steps have been initiated for stopping illegal migration and address security threats from across the border, it added.
"The survey carried out by Assam Police in the chars would benefit the people residing at these areas, especially during the time of flood, erosion and other such natural calamities as relief operations would efficiently reach the affected people," the statement said.
Moreover, people of these places would be adequately sensitised for thwarting any activity of anti-national elements that might try to set up base there, it added.
The survey would ensure that the youths of these areas do not fall prey to the evil designs of anti-national elements.
"After the direction of the Chief Minister survey in 829 of 2,251 total villages at char areas of the state is being carried out by Assam Police and rest of the villages would also be brought under the survey in a phased manner," the statement said.
