With rural areas of Odisha gradually reporting more crimes and social unrest, the state government has decided to constitute 'Social Harmony Award' to honour ligitation-free villages.
A cash award of Rs one lakh in every calendar year will be given to one revenue village of each district for having no litigation (both civil and criminal) to promote harmony, a government spokesman said today.
Stating that a mechanism for selecting villages has been made, he said, the prize money would be invested in bank fixed deposits and the interest accrued would be distributed as scholarship among two students who would secure the highest mark in high school board examination.
