Ayyappa devotees to get telemedicine care from JIPMER

Pilgrims thronging the famous hill shrine of Lord Ayyappa in Sabarimala in Kerala can soon access emergency health care from centrally administered premier health institute JIPMER here through telemedicine facility.
JIPMER has been chosen by Union Health Ministry and Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) as the nodal centre to provide remote health care to the needy pilgrims through telemedicine facility.
The institute would soon develop a space technology and telemedicine centre in emergency medical services and a team of specialists would render the service round-the-clock, JIMPER Director S C Parija said in a release here today.
The necessary financial support and equipment would be provided by the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry and the ISRO.

Thousands of devotees from various parts of the country, especially from the southern states, visit the Sabarimala temple during the two-month long annual season starting in mid November.
The Union Health ministry had in 2013 designated JIPMER as the Regional Resource Centre for telemedicine for the southern states.
