Calling it a "proud" and "historic" moment for India, Bollywood celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan, Lata Mangeshkar and Sridevi hailed ISRO for the successful placing of the Mangalyaan satellite in the orbit around Mars today morning.
With the success of "Mangalyaan", India has become the first country to go to Mars in the very first try. European, American and Russian probes have managed to orbit or land on the planet, but after several attempts.
Bachchan said the feat was great as the entire mission was commissioned on a budget less than a Hollywood film.
"Mangalyaan... Bharat Mata ki Jai! Historic! Only country to have succeeded in first attempt, on budget less than Hollywood film... Our scientists have achieved what others could not... Badhai, Pyaar, Sneh, Abhinandan, aur Jai jai kaar! MOM (Mars Orbiter Mission)," Bachchan, 71, posted on twitter.
Congratulating the scientists at the space agency, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Melody Queen Lata Mangeshkar said, "Namaskar. It is a very proud day for all Indians. Our scientists at ISRO have shown a miracle.
"India's spacecraft has successfully reached the orbit around Mars. I congratulate all the scientists and I salute their hardwork and dedication. Jai Hind. Vande Mataram," the 84-year-old singer said.
Bollywood star Akshay Kumar said it was a great news to begin his morning with.
"Woke up to the great news of Mangalyaan, the cheapest Mars mission ever! What a great achievement. Congrats ISRO #ProudIndian," the 'Holiday' star said.
'English Vinglish' actress Sridevi also tweeted her happiness on the success of 'Mangalyaan'.
"I congratulate India and ISRO on the successful mission to Mars. Mangalyaan #MissionMars #MarsMission," Sridevi said.
Actor Shahid Kapoor, who is awaiting the release of his next 'Haider', said, "'Mangalyaan' reaches Mars on first attempt. Big respect. #proudindian."
