Balaghat observes bandh to protest Collector's transfer

A bandh was observed today in the town to protest against the transfer of District Collector V Kiran Gopal.
Gopal had assumed charge only 11 months ago and during his short stint in the district earned appreciation of the local people for his good administrative work.
The IAS officer had become so popular that when his transfer to Bhopal was announced recently, the locals strongly disapproved of the Government's decision.
All markets remained closed today although educational institutions functioned normally due to examinations.
Interestingly, no organisation had given a call for the bandh and the shutdown was observed by people on their own.
