Normal life was affected in Manipur's Churachandpur district as 60-hour bandh called by a tribal body, demanding the withdrawal of three bills by the state Assembly and killing of nine people in protests, entered its second day today.
All buses, taxis and autorickshaws were off the roads since the bandh began at 12 noon yesterday.
All educational institutions - both private and government run - were closed following a diktat by the bandh sponsor Joint Action Committee.
However, there was no report of any untoward incident.
Women of the town joined in the protests today by staging a demonstration against the passage of the bills.
They converged at old Churachandpur Bazar and shouted slogans like "Withdraw government bills", "We cannot sacrifice our land", "We demand resignation of MLAs".
JAC has asked its authorities to keep the institutes closed till the disposal of the bodies of nine people killed in protest against the three bills.
It has given a 10-day ultimatum to Hill Area Committee of Manipur Assembly to withdraw the Protection of Manipur People Bill, 2015, Manipur Land Revenue and Land Reforms (Seventh Amendment) Bill, 2015 and Manipur Shops and Establishments (Second Amendment) Bill, 2015 which were passed on August 31.
JAC sources said if the Hill Area Committee failed to withdraw the bills, all its members would face public boycott.
