Bank looted in Odisha

Armed men today looted about Rs four lakh in cash and gold ornaments from a bank at Buguda area of Odisha's Ganjam district.
Sub divisional police officer, Bhanjanagar, Utkal Keshari Das said the four to five looters stormed Utkal Grameen Bank's Manitara branch and terrorised the people in it by exploding bombs and blank firing. They also assaulted the bank's security staff and its employees and then took away the cash from the counters and and gold ornaments from the lockers.
The looters decamped in three motorcycles waiting outside the bank immediately afterwards. Four persons were waiting for them, he said.
"They took around 10 minutes to loot the money and the ornaments and fled the spot immediately afterwards," the bank branch manager Sishir Nayak said.
As per preliminary estimates the looted cash was about Rs 4 lakh but he value of looted gold was yet to be ascertained, he said.
Police were alerted at Buguda, Jagannath Prasad and Belaguntha areas and patrolling has been intensified. "We are also scrutinising the CCTV footage," Das said.
