Trouble is brewing again in Indian boxing following the decision of Boxing India president to convene an Executive Council meet in Delhi tomorrow without the consent of the secretary general.
"The president (Sandeep Jajodia) has convened the EC meeting which is unconstitutional as it's the secretary general's job. We don't know why the president has taken such a step," said a senior member of the panel here today.
Jay Kowli was elected as BI's secretary-general in Mumbai on September 11 last year, along with Jajodia who was elected unopposed, as well as ten vice presidents, treasurer Hemant Kumar Kalita and seven other EC members.
The BI elections were supervised by world body AIBA's legal manager Cliodhna Guy, who flew down from Switzerland to be present at the hustings, and AIBA's Indian representative Kishen Narsi.
Asked about the support for Jajodia on his move to convene an EC meeting, the member said that one of the elected vice presidents - Nagaland's T Meren Paul - has written to the BI president cautioning him that the meeting is unconstitutional.
"But it seems he's going ahead with the meeting though a majority members of the EC are opposed to it," the member claimed.
BI was initially given provisional recognition by AIBA, after it threw out the then existing Indian Boxing Federation from its fold, before it got full representation in the world body.
However, it is yet to get recognition from the Indian Olympic Association.
