Bid to smuggle illicit liquor foiled in Kathua, one held

One person was arrested today for allegedly trying to smuggle illicit liquor in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir, an excise department official said.
The accused was arrested with 12 bottles (of 750 ml each) and one bottle of 2000 ml of country made foreign liquor from a vehicle at Lakhanpur Toll Plaza in Kathua district during routine checking, the official spokesperson said.
He was handed over to Excise and Taxation Officer (ETO) Kathua range for further action, he said, adding that entry of any type of liquor in the state requires permission from Excise authorities.
