A BJP delegation, led by actress Rupa Ganguly, met Hitunnesha Bibi who was sent to 12 days' judicial custody by a Birbhum court under several non-bailable cases.
Hitunnesha Bibi, her husband Seikh Sabir and mother-in law Najera Bibi, who were arrested along with three others on Saturday, were produced before a Suri court yesterday which remanded them to jail custody till July 17.
Ganguly, accompanied by Jayprakash Mazumder and other BJP leaders, talked to Bibi, the relative of a local BJP activist, for sometime before visiting the court here to consult lawyers.
Bibi had accused the police of torturing her on the night of January 17 during a raid after residents of Sattor village had informed the police of bombs stockpiled in the local TMC office.
On behalf of Hitunnesha Bibi and Seikh Sabir, a lawyer of Suri court Somenath Mukherjee appealed before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Suri, Indranil Chatterjee, that he be allowed to move a fresh bail petition for the two.
But, as the scheduled time for putting up such prayers was over, the court did not accept the appeal.
"Police did not recover bombs kept in the TMC office when the villagers informed them. On the contrary, they arrested those who had informed the police. The case of torture of Hitunnesha Bibi is going on. She and her family members along with others have been arrested on false charges," the BJP leader alleged.
