Accusing the ruling BJP in Madhya Pradesh and at the Centre of showing "no intent" to go into the Vyapam scam, Swaraj Abhiyan, the group founded by expelled AAP leaders Yogendra Yadav and Prashant Bhushan, today called for a Supreme Court-monitored probe into the matter.
Expressing "shock" over the alleged indifference of the BJP-led Centre and the MP government, it said they were showing "no intent" to unearth the truth behind the scam pertaining to recruitments by the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB).
The group demanded that an SIT be set up to inquire into the scam which should be supervised by Supreme Court.
Senior lawyer Prashant Bhushan, the outfit's co-founder, meanwhile, agreed to appear in Supreme Court for one of the whistleblowers seeking an independent investigation of the scam.
Noting that the STF investigating the scam was under the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government, the group claimed that no independent investigation was possible as the "chief minister himself is allegedly involved".
"Swaraj Abhiyan demands an independent inquiry by an SIT formed and supervised by Supreme Court so that the truth comes to the fore and the mystery of unnatural deaths can be uncovered.
"The Prime Minister, who is getting into an unwelcome habit of keeping mum on issues where his party is in question, needs to break his silence on the Vyapam scam," it added in a statement here.
