Tribal BJP MLA from Sardarpur Walsingh Bhuria landed in a controversy after claiming to enjoy powers to carry out encounters to maintain law and order in his constituency here.
"Catch and send all the goons to Sardarpur (his constituency), I will put them in Jail. I enjoy the power to carry out an encounter," Bhuria told reporters at Dasai village in Dhar on Wednesday.
The MLA was responding to reporters and lost his cool when asked about a Ganesh temple, which has become a den of anti-social elements in his constituency, posing a threat to peace and tranquility in the region.
When a scribe asked him whether he was empowered to put somebody in jail, the legislator got angry and said, "I enjoy the power of an encounter. Write what you wish, I care a damn."
Meanhwile, after Bhuria's statement went viral, Congressmen reached Ajmara police station of the district to lodge an FIR against the MLA, who later said his remarks have been distorted and tendered apology.
"Moreover, if my statement has hurt anyone, I tender my apology," he told PTI today.
"We gave a complaint to Ajmara police against Bhuria yesterday. His statement was bad in the eye of the law and he should be booked," former Congress MLA of Sardarpur Pratap Grewal said demanding Bhuria's resignation.
