The main Opposition National Conference and the ruling coalition partner BJP in Jammu and Kashmir are claiming credit for the revocation of toll tax from the residents of Nagrota constituency here.
Opposition National Conference (NC) today held a protest at the Ban Toll Plaza, demanding the toll authorities to waive off the tax from the people of Nagrota constituency.
The demand for the revocation of the toll tax from the residents of Nagrota was later accepted by the authorities.
"National Conference's long struggle and series of protests, culminated in a large indefinite sit-in at the Ban Toll Plaza here this morning, which forced the Toll authorities to waive off the Toll Tax for the people of Nagrota constituency," a party spokesman said.
He termed this as the victory of the people of Nagrota, who joined the struggle to fight the alleged nexus between the contractor, goons and top leaders of BJP, who held the people to ransom and were fleecing toll from the local people which was illogical, illegal, irrational and unconstitutional.
Meanwhile, BJP has also said that the decision of the revocation of the toll tax area was taken after the party president of the state unit, Jugal Kishore Sharma, asked the union surface transport minister to intervene.
The demand for the exemption of tax at the Ban Toll plaza, which was raised by the locals of Nagrota and other adjoining areas, today got fulfilled from the Union Ministry for Road Transport with the efforts of BJP State President, a BJP spokesman said.
