A day after UP Combined Pre-medical Test (UPCPMT) was cancelled after suspected question paper leak, BJP today raised the matter in the state Assembly and demanded a CBI inquiry into it.
Moving an adjournment notice in the zero hour, BJP leaders Laxmikant Bajpai and Radha Mohan Das Agarwal termed the matter very serious and sought a debate on it.
Bajpai asked why the question papers were kept in banks which did not have CCTV facility, when there is a provision of keeping question papers in the strong room of government treasuries.
He asked the government to make arrangement for food, lodging and ferrying of students appearing in the examination on the new date on July 20 as they were not responsible for the leak.
The UPCPMT was cancelled yesterday over suspected question paper leak after the seals of two boxes containing them were found to have been tampered with, prompting the state government to order a high-level probe.
More than a lakh students were to appear in the test which is now likely to be held on July 20.
Holding the government responsible for the leak, Agarwal said that breaking of seal of the question paper boxes in the strong room of banks was dacoity and the role of examintion mafias behind it cannot be ruled out.
Replying for the government, senior minister Ambika Chaudhary said that the case has been handed over to Special Task Force and all those found guilty would be punished.
Though the speaker Mata Prasad Pandey rejected the notice, he directed the goverment to take care of the issue.
Through another adjournment notice, Veerpal Rathi and Sudesh Sharma (RLD) raised the issue of delay in payment of cane dues to farmers charging the government with not exerting adequate pressure on sugar mills.
They also staged a walkout expressing dissatisfaction over the reply of Chaudhary on action taken by the government against sugar mills.
