Bodies of a father and son were recovered from a village in West Bengal's Burdwan district today.
A police official said the bodies of Jeevan Bose (54) and his son Nabo Bose (35) were recovered from near a pond at Pakurmuri village under Manteshwar police station early this morning by the villagers.
Villagers said the duo were dewatering a pond near their house last night to catch fish this morning when they heard sounds of gun shots and bombs. The terrified villagers did not venture out of their houses and the bodies were discovered this morning.
A police official said two factions of the ruling Trinamool Congress were operating in the area and the father-son duo belonged to one group. Police are investigating whether the incident was an off-shoot of gang rivalry.
Burdwan Superintendent of Police, S M H Mirza said the bodies bore splinter injuries and bullet wounds.
Mirza said the duo belonged to a criminal group which committed dacoity in a fertilizer shop in Palshan village in Katwa. Some members of the group were hiding in Manteshwar and said the two were part of this gang.
Police was exploring the criminal as well as group rivalry angles, he said.
Meanwhile, police picket has been posted in Pakurmuri village following tension, the SP said.
