Bollywood celebrities today saluted Mahatma Gandhi on the occasion of his 144th birth anniversary and hoped that people imbibe his teachings in their lives.
Several film personalities took to micro-blogging site Twitter to remember the man, who contributed significantly in India's Independence.
Filmmaker-actor Satish Kaushik posted, "Wishing everyone Gandhi Jayanti... Salute to father of the nation."
"Today lets take Mahatma Gandhi's picture off the wall and put him back in our hearts. Let's not worship him, but learn from what he was telling us," director Shekhar Kapur tweeted.
"So many wishes on Gandhi Jayanti. But are we merely wishing each other or celebrating it too, makes me ponder. Jai Hind," actress Yaami Gautam of "Vicky Donor" fame tweeted.
Actor Anupam Kher not only remembered Gandhiji but also Lal Bahadur Shastri, the second Prime Minister of India, who shares his birthday with bapu.
"Two Great Indians born on the same day. Their contribution in our lives is incomparable. Happy Birthday to Bapu and to Lal Bahadur Shastriji. Jai Ho.
Vishal Dadlani of Bollywood music composer duo Vishal-Shekhar, expressed his dismay saying that people just treat this day as a holiday forgetting what Gandhiji did for the Nation.
"October 2nd. The day a lazy nation takes a holiday in the name of a man who said we should work 24 hours a day. Sorry Gandhiji," Vishal said.
Actor Kabir Bedi also remembered bapu by quoting him in his tweet.
"In prayer it is better to have a heart without words than words without a heart- Gandhi," Bedi posted on Twitter.
Actress Saumya Tandon, who was seen in Imtiaz Ali's 2007 film "Jab We Met", remembered her late father on Gandhi Jayanti.
"Remembering Bapu and my own father who was a true Gandhian on Gandhi Jayanti. Simple, truthful, fearless, visionary, genius. Love and respect," she posted.
